Complex ČERCHOV

Each of our expeditions, mapping the basic megalithic structures of artificially formed rocks, has something to amaze us. Čerchov is, we theorize, the largest megalithic settlement complex we’ve seen yet. It is interspersed with perhaps several circuits of ramparts or ramparts of different overall dimensions, made up of smaller stone blocks connected by (proto)polygonal ties into prismatic segments. In the crown of the ramparts (ramparts) – there seems to be a road several meters wide. The segments of the walls are in many places in their original position, in others they are completely missing, some of them are broken into layers of polygonal masonry as a result of ancient cataclysm(s). Or whole segments are overturned sideways in a compact state.

The site needs to be thoroughly surveyed and the shapes, condition and distribution of the structures, including their elevation, need to be specified. Such a complete picture of the site, with the ramparts – ramparts probably maintaining the same elevation, must be fascinating indeed.

One of the dimensionally smaller segments of the rampart from all sides. In the shape of a prism, composed of small artificially shaped blocks fixed in a polygonal weave… From the side of the broken end it allows to see in detail its internal structure in a fascinating reading display. Is it going somewhere? Its neighbours are missing. Have they been removed or are these segments like pylons for a possible traffic line that once ran along them?

Preliminary evaluation of the site survey

With the first cursory survey on 18 June 2022, we demonstrated and photographically documented the physical existence of a large number of man-made structures.

Several types of structures of many sizes have been recorded, at least two of which are linear structures. The first type acts as a protective wall around the perimeter of the complex. The second type forms mounds (embankments) of smaller stone blocks, assembled in a polygonal bond. Mounds of several types have a straight passageway in their crown up to several metres wide. By varying their dimensions, they somewhere compensate for the changing terrain height to the same level of elevation. This type of linear structure may have formed the basis of the infrastructure transport network in the area of the site.

Prehistoric age

The condition of the rock used corresponds to a high age (estimated in the order of millions of years) due to its degree of erosion and natural decay. This decay of the rock largely overlays the signs of its artificial formation into building blocks and creates an overall unified ancient impression. In that case, the actual construction by the rock-forming technology must have taken place a similar length of time ago as the rock disintegration took place.

Conclusion

We have demonstrated and documented an unknown settlement from prehistoric times in this locality. This is evidenced by the abundance of preserved artificially formed rock structures as products of intensive and highly sophisticated construction activity at that time.

And interesting facts at the end:
